    139. Who was Surasa ?

    A demoness who had super natural powers of expanding and contracting herself at will. She insisted Hanuman to go through her mouth.

    140. How did he win the riddle ?

    He easily won over her by contracting himself as a fly and proved his intelligence.

    141. Who were pleased by this victory of Hanuman ?

    The Devas. They had sent her to test his intelligence.

    142. Who was another woman coming on his way ? What happened to her ?

    Simhika, the demoness who could kill the victims by catching their shadow itself in the sea. Hanuman (who was caught by her) killed her.

    Who did he meet at first on entering the gates of Lanka ?

    Langini, the guardess of the city. She tried to kill Hanuman.

    How did Hanuman get over the hurdle ?

    He could not be controlled by the guardess. Instead she was made to run away with his heavy blow.

    Could he find Sita in Lanka at first ?

    No, he could not find her anywhere. He had searched all parts of the city including the private abode of Ravana.

    What did Hanuman do then ?

    He was dejected much and tried to kill himself.

    Who came to his help then ?

    He began to pray the Lord Rama and Sita sincerely. Then he suddenly noticed a garden to which he had not gone. It was Ashokavana.

    What did Hanuman see under a Sinsupatree in Ashokavana ?

    Under the tree, Sita was sitting weaping and sobbing surrounded by ugly demoneses.

    How did he find out that the women was Sita ?

    He found out Sita verifying the identifications given by Rama. Ravana the king of Lanka came there. He begged her love, but she was firm in her love towards her husband. He threatened to kill her if she would not yield to him within two months. This incidence confirmed Hanuman's guess.

    What did Sita do then ?

    She was about to hang herself.

    Who stopped it ?

    Hanuman stopped it by chanting Rama nama.

    How did he prove his identity ?

    He came down slowly from the tree greeted her with affectionate words. He also showed the wedding ring given by Rama. On seeing it she was immensly pleased.

    What did she give him in turn ?

    She also handed over Sudamani an ornament of her head to him and requested him to ask Rama to release her from the seize with in a month.

    Why was Hanuman tied with Brahmastra and brought to the court of Ravana ?

    After the return of Hanuman the Vanaras were very happy. The pleasure resort of king Sugriva - the Maduvana was destroyed by the hungry vanaras. They were mad after their victory.

    Why was Rama much thankful to Hanuman ?

    Hanuman handed over the token from Sita and also revealed the story of his visit there. So Rama was pleased and embraced him.

    They all gathered together and reached the shores and planned to cross the sea so as to reach Lanka.

    What are the morals of the Sundara Kandam ?

    Real service itself is a reward - (the lord and Lordess bless the Vanara for his service). Illegal ruler (Ravana) will be punished own action (burning the tail of Hanuman caused the havoc to Lanka). Timely guidance and planning will give the success. (Jambavan's counselling to Hanman).
