Bhakthi or devotion is described in 9 ways in the Vedas. These nine forms of bhakthi have been taken care in the compositions of Thyagaraja. His compositions are gems.

Sravanam- The listening to glory of God comes first.

- Sudha madhurya bhashana
Keerthanam- The entire life and output of Thyagaraja exemplifies this form of devotion.
- Yelaavathara (Mukari ragam)
- Intha saukhyamani (Kaapi ragam)
- Inta kannananda (Bilahari)
Smaranam- The constant memory of the lord and meditating upon him. Naama japa (reciting the name of lord) was futile if not lighted up all through by theglow of the thought of Rama.
- Shree pathe nee pada
- Rama kodhanda Rama (Bhairavi)
- Smarane sukamu (janaranjini)
- Marache vaadanaa
Paada sevanam- The worship of the lord’s feet. This is in particular a devotional mode exemplified by Bharatha by the adoration of Rama’s paduka.

- Sandeha munu Dirupamayya (Ramapriya)
Archanam- worship of the lord daily and incessantly.

Vandanam- paying obeisance to the lord

- Dandamu pettedanu ra (balahamsa)
Dasyam- Thagaraja while describing Rama mentions Lakshmana also often as attending upon him as the most accomplished servant of Rama. Similar bhakthi has also been depicted in hanuman’s service to Rama. This kind of bhakthi is dasyam.
