Thirukannangudi and Thirumangai – The Story of Urngaap Puli, Oorak Kinaru, Theraa Vilakku and Kaya Maghizhai - Once when Thirumangai Azhwar was constructing the huge compound walls for Srirangam, he was running short of money. He then came down to Nagappattinam Buddha Vihar and hymned a song meaning that For Buddha a Staue of Iron, Wood, Lead Brass or Copper etc… would be enough and not needed in Gold. When he was singing the Gold in the Buddha Statue started to melt and came staright tothe hands of Thirumangai Azhwar as Gold Bars. He then proceeded to Srirangam with the Gold. On the way he felt very tired and had rest for some time under a Tamarind Tree. He instructed the tree to wake him up if some one come as he burried the gold under the tree. Hence the tree did not sleep for the whole night so that to safeguard the gold. Hence Uranga Puli - Non Sleeping Tamarind Tree
Next Day Morning when the land lord arrived, the tamarind tree shed its leaves on Azhwar. Woken up Thirumangai took back his gold bars. But the land lord made a dispute that it was his land hence the gold too belongs to him. But Thirumangai told him that the land is of him and he had the papers in Srirangam. He also added that he would go and bring back the documents from Srirangam. But he never turned up. The dispute was not get over and still pending, is being called as Theraa Valakku - Still Pending Case. On the way to Srirangam, he felt very thirsty and asked for water from the women who were near a well. Since Alwar had a dispute with the land lord of their village, the women standing there refused to give him water. Thirumangai got annoyed and cursed that all the wells would turn dry for ever. This is called as Oora Kinarau - The Wells With No Water. At Last tired, thirsty and hungry Thirumangai slept under a Magizham Tree. The Tree started to fan him with a cool breeze and let him sleep well. After some time, Pleased Paranthaman came over there in disguise of a Brahmin and offered Kaliyan called as Thirumangai some tasty food and water. Once when Kaliyan had his food, he could not see the Brahmin there and understood that the person is None Other than the ALMIGHTY. As his hunger got fulfilled and also had a chance to get blessed with the Darshan of Paranthaman under the Maghizham, the overjoyed Thirumangai blessed the tree that it would never get dry which is being known as Kaaya Magizhai - Mahizha Maram Never Get Dry.

| | | | |
Nirmalya Dharshan and Vaha Chatthu in Guruvayurappan Temple - In Guruvayur, every day in early morning at 03:00 AM, the chief priest opens the main doors of Sreekovil and the ALMIGHTY is awakened with Nadhaswaram and blowing the Conch. The decorations what made in the previous day will be there still upon Lord Guruvayurappan. This darshan is called as “Nirmalya Darshan”. This is the One and Only temple where devotees can worship the ALMIGHTY with the previous day decorations. Then the preist removes the ornamentations and bathes Guruvayurappan with Gingilee Oil, which is later given as Prasadham to the devotees. Then the preist will wipe off the Oil by sprinking “Vaha Powder” over the the statue of Lord Guruvayurappan, which is called as "Vaha Chathu". Then the powder will be removed with the fine brush and the Idol will be cleaned with pure water poured from the DIVINE conch, then followed by “Abishegam”. Finally Lord Guruvayoorappan will be decorated with Flower Garlands, Glittering Ornaments, Decorative Clothes and Naivedhyam will be offered. Click Here to Know More About Guruvayur ...
