Significance of Mohini Ekadashi

Sri Krishna tells Dharmaraja,"In the past, Sri Ramchandra tells the Sage Vasistha that he has faced a lot of unhappiness due to separation from Sita. Please let me know a way to wash of the sins due to which this separation happened.
Sage Vasistha says,'you have asked a very good question, the chanting of your name, Sri Rama, by itself, washes away all sins. (So there is no question of you having sinned or separated from Sita) but for the welfare of humanity, I will answer your question. The Ekadasi that falls on the first half of the holy month of Vaishaka is called Mohini Ekadasi. Observing this Ekadasi fast sincerely will definitely wash away all our sins.
Bhadravathi was a beautiful city on the banks of the River Saraswathi. It was ruled by a just, brave and truthful king called Dhyuthimana belonging to the Chandravamshi dynasty. Dhanapala was a good businessman in his kingdom. Being wealthy in all respects, he was also good at heart and was famous for setting up free Ashrams, rest houses, food shelters, etc. he had five sons named Sumana,Dhyuthimana,Medhava, Sukrutha and Dhrushtabudho. Dhrushtabudho, the youngest was the rotten egg in the family. He was a habitual sinner with all vices like drinking, womanizing, gambling, wasting father's wealth, etc.. Finally, fed up, his father threw him out of his house. Soon he lost all his companions as he had nothing to provide them. Out of hunger, he became a petty thief in his own state. The king's men caught him, but recognizing him, let him go due to the good name of his father. But when he did not mend his ways, he was again caught and put into jail. When he did not show any remorse, he was thrown out of the kingdom by the king. He was forced to live in the dense forest full of wild animals. His hunger made him start eating the animals for food. Finally, maybe due to his sins, he fell into a dirty slush. He was scared and shouting for help when the great sage Koundinya happened to pass by after having a bath in the holy Ganga. He must have done some good in the previous birth due to which a few drops of the holy water from the sage's clothes fell on Dhrustabuddhi. Immediately he got cleansed and fell on the feet of the great sage. He told him of all the sins he had commited and asked a way out to repent for all his misdeeds.  The Rishi asked him to observe the Mohini Ekadasi that falls on the Shukla Paksha of the holy month of Vaishaka sincerely.  Dhrushtabudho happily observed this fast with sincerity as prescribed in the scriptures and eventually reached Vishnuloka.
So Rama, this Ekadasi has the power to wash away all your sins and give you happiness. Anyone who reads, tells or listens to this greatness of the Mohini Ekadasi will have the puny a of having done a thousand Godhana, Cows given in charity.
