Kanchi Mahaswami Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal was camping in Guntur in Andhra. It was a rather sunny day and the heat was unbearable. Mahaswami uttered the following golden words “ Just because it is sunny, is it practically possible to cover the entire village with pandal ( temporary shelter made from dried palm / coconut leaves) or carpet the entire ground? What is practical is to have our own personal umbrella and footwear that will protect us from the scorching sun. Do not run after money, power and fame. That will be like chasing one’s own shadow and will only elude us always. If we do so, the only result will be our deviation from our goal, in the end of the day. So fix a goal for yourself. Walk towards it in the path of Dharma. The rest will follow!
MARRIAGES
All dharmas depend on women for their maintenance streemoolah sarva dharmah. It is sad to see girls nowadays remaining unmarried till a late age, due to the inability of their parents, to the exorbitant demands of dowry, or due to the inability to get proper bridegrooms. The Parsi community has an organisation to help the less rich among the community. It is desirable to organize a Bank to aid the marriage of unmarried girls belonging to poor families, who have attained puberty, but whom their parents are obliged to keep at home, because of their sheer inability to give them away in marriage. It is also necessary to perform all marriages as economically as possible, without, however, omitting the prescribed religious rites. It should be our endeavour to avoid wasteful expenditure in marriages as well as in other ceremonial occasions. — with Anand Parameswaran and8 others.
